It's like being triggered; it absolutely has a valid and meaningful use for people but, yes, there is a group that's diluted it and made it into an annoying buzzing noise.

honestly, I try to look at the context and situation of a person before I judge them on word use. I don't know their problems. basic human empathy and all that good shit.

that said a single argument with your bro isn't a cause to go TOXIC OMG either.

What's the valid and meaningful use for people that can't be another word? Dangerous? Damaging? Terrible? Horrible? Harmful? Abusive?

I understand triggers because that word means a specific thing that doesn't have many other words that can be used in its place, but why this fixation on "toxic"?

mouthfeel, sound, semantics, semiotics. i dunno. there's all sorts of reasons for a subculture to fixate on a term over another term. the question you ask is valid, but it's also general and doesn't have a firm answer.

I disagree. Toxic has no real usage outside of the chemical context.

What it is, is a conveniant way to say "Harmful" but if you say "harmful" you open yourself to have to prove that harm has been done. "Toxic" is amorphous enough that it can be taken as serious as saying "harm has been done" without having to back it up. if something is "Toxic" the harm is self evident and above question.
