I definitely do think it's better for some than others. MCU, Tolkien, sometimes if you're going nutball hard on a historical AU or something. I think involved genfic or very plotty porn is probably a better environment for that sort of thing.

I think part of what can help tell you if you can get away with longer notes is by checking the tone of any feedback you're getting. Are there questions, do your reviewers seem to be curious, is the fandom in general the type to be interested in all the little headcanony details? Etc.
