As opposed to if you made the same post on LiveJournal, where it would have been guaranteed to receive the accolades it so rightly deserved and been disseminated far and wide across all the internets?

Well it was a reblog wasn't it? On LJ it would've been a comment on someone else's post.

I'm not even sure what the hell you're trying to do here.

You are upset that people on Tumblr ignored what you had to say about sinkholes. Why are you so sure people would have paid attention anywhere else (except possibly a community exclusively about Siberia, methane or sinkholes)?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Or environment. Environment comms like that stuff. Is "So Very Doomed" still going?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No, what you don't get is that a blog comment can potentially get read by anyone looking at the blog. On tumblr, the comment will be seen by, what, the person you reblogged it from and your followers. And the very few who check all the notes. (Which is insane with some of the huge posts.)

I'm not "upset" about anything. You're inferring an awful lot and jumping all over my post and it's clear that you didn't actually read the thread it was in response to or you'd have some context. I'm not going to repeat what everyone else said because I shouldn't have to read the thread for you.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The person you initially replied to only has a ghost of a point - reblog commentary is easily ignored, yes, but so are blog comments. Nothing stops people from scrolling past comments, just like nothing stops people from ignoring the 'more notes' button.

Your reblog comment about sinkholes would have gotten no more traction anywhere else. Except here, because we like you.

ok

It wouldn't necessarily get traction. But on tumblr most people would never know the comment even existed unless one person saw it and reblogged it and then enough people decided to reblog it to make it visible.

Here, for example, if someone makes a comment, you can see it. You don't have to read it, but you know it's there. (And overall, that does make it more likely to be read, if we're honest.)

(Anonymous) 2015-03-15 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I disagree that knowing that someone commented is higher-value than not knowing they commented. If you don't read the comment, those things are of equal value.

youre just so determined to be right, omg

(Anonymous) 2015-03-16 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
I don't need determination, I'm already right.

First of all, I disagree. Sometimes seeing how many comments a thing has, and by who, is information that can give it weight.

Second of all, there is no doubt that you are more likely to read a comment if you know it is there.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-16 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
And having a treatment for a disease is no higher-value than NOT having it, because if you don't take it then they're of equal value.

I mean seriously, yes, if people want to stay as uninformed as possible they can do it anywhere. But Tumblr seems to be set up specifically to make it harder to get informed.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-16 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
You're really trying on this one, aren't you?
