Not that uncommon? Latin and South America is pretty mixed iirc. Hell, even one of my baby cousins was blonder, although it darkened up as he got older.

No, sorry, the movie is AWFUL, but it would've been equally made with a wide eyed, black haired mestizo little girl and it would've been equally 'loved' by the audiences here in México. It was pushed because Eugenio Derbez wanted to make an Oscar bait movie, and his star power was more than enough to make Televisa give him the money.
