I did cry at this episode a lot back in the day but I don't now. I don't know if this is I'm desensitised or the retcon removed some of the gut punch and not for the better. I think it's a combination of both.

But The Sting still makes me cry. Along with the one about Fry's brother.

I didn't cry at this episode either-- though I think that was because I was too surprised. As in "Wait-- did they just...? Well, that's kind of a gut punch."

Somehow I missed this episode during Futurama's original run. I just read the summary and now I am not okay.

I remember reading that this episode makes you cry if you've lost (death, gone missing, etc.) a dog, and the one with Fry's brother makes you cry if you have a brother and are not so close to him anymore.

It seems to be the "I DID NOT APPRECIATE FLUFFY/BRO ENOUGH WHILE I HAD HIM, BWAAAAAAH" guilt that does it.

I've always felt like I'm doing it wrong, because this episode never made me cry, but I downright sobbed the first time I saw the episode about Fry's brother. I honestly can't watch that one without at least tearing up a little :/

I hate this episode so much. Every other big reveal/twist on the past got subtly foreshadowed and woven into the overall plot, and for this one they just went, "Eh, let's shove a dog we never mentioned before into it" and spent the entire episode smacking the audience in the back of the head and going "ARE YOU CRYING YET? ARE YOU CRYING YET?"

Not only did I not cry at this episode, I loathe it for being so blatantly, transparently manipulative.

I've seen very little of Futurama, but I bawled at this episode. (That said: I cry at everything so this isn't exactly an achievement.)

Text: Despite being a massive animal-lover and also crying at the top of a hat, I barely cried at this episode even once the sad music started.

Fry and Leela’s episodes (the spacewasp one, the holophone, etc etc etc), on the other hand? CRYING LIKE A BABY. I wouldn’t call myself a particularly romantic person but somehow Fry and Leela grab me by the heartstrings.
