nayrt- Well yes, but I sort of wonder if that's part of the problem. It doesn't make sense to give incredible science-y things a pass because they make a great story, but for some reason having more POCs doesn't get a pass, because...?

I for one can't really complete that sentence without sounding like a douche.

It wouldn't bother me if it had more POCs. I'd be completely fine giving it a pass if the creators decided to do that.

I just don't think that's a fatal flaw that makes it worthless or racist.

Yes, I agree with you. I just don't understand the pushback in this secret like somehow people are wrong and awful for wanting to see more POC representation, especially when they feel the need to pull out stats to prove that having a predominantly white cast is not only good, but necessary to be historically accurate. It's MCU, do people really watch it for historical accuracy?

Mainly because I'm really really disgusted with how people are treating Hayley's heritage (because I've had EXACTLY THE SAME BULLSHIT pulled on me).

That and the fact that they're calling it representation when it's not. Like, yes, say you want a more DIVERSE cast.

But don't say it's on the grounds of wanting it to be more representative of reality because 1940s NYC was overwhelmingly white and also far more segregated than today.

Because it's impossible to disentangle that view (or the view that "I don't want to watch Agent Carter") from the view that Agent Carter is bad for not doing the thing, that it is a moral necessity to do the thing, or that no one should watch Agent Carter

or to put it in fewer words, because the Internet is stupid.

(I do agree that the pushback is silly, and the appeal to historical accuracy is misguided)

Because a BIG part of the show is actually meant to tackle discrimination maybe?

Like, how do you want to minimize racial prejudice when the villains were the freaking NAZIS?

Or the fact that Peggy herself faces ENORMOUS amounts of discrimination and the only she managed to get a job with the SSR post-War (or at least, the common impression among her peers is) that she Cap's girl.

And because WANTING more POC is fine. But you can't pretend that it's based on REPRESENTATION.

And if you're going to ask for more POC, maybe people SHOULDN'T erase the racial identities of the cast to make their point. Just sayin'.
