I think wanting the cast to be more diverse is fair(and I agree that it could have been better), but I don't get why the SJW's decided that this show was the one to go after when there are plenty of modern shows and movies that are overwhelming white that get a pass.

I mean much as I love the MCU it is very, very white yet I don't see them rip into those movies anywhere near as much.

It's because:

1) No credit for trying! A show with a great female lead must be perfect in every other way or it totally fails.

2). It's a good excuse not to have to watch a show with a female lead.

I do wonder sometimes because a lot of the complaints I've seen thrown at Agent Carter can apply to most of the Marvel movies too and they all star white dudes(who I thought SJW's hated with a burning passion? But not if they're hot I guess?).

Agent Carter isn't perfect no but tbh I can't think of a show that is, even ones that tackle diversity in some way.

I think it's really easy to hand-wave any critique away as simply being hypocritical SJWs who are actually just women-hating, white-peen lovers. I've seen plenty of people criticizing Agent Carter while also criticizing the boycott of Agent Carter while also criticizing the MCU's general lack of non-white male representation while also loving the MCU in general.

To be fair, I think the white-male-led Marvel movies often still have non-white characters in named support roles who get their brief moments to shine (Rhodey in Iron Man, Heimdall and Hogun in Thor, Falcon and Fury in CATWS, Gamora in GotG, etc.), something which Agent Carter doesn't really have at the moment.

But yeah, I honestly do think the lack of POC representation is more frequently a dealbreaker when the show is female-led than when it's male-led, which is really frustrating. It's like something trying to be progressive and falling short is seen as somehow worse in people's eyes than not even trying at all... :/

I agree, I'd love for Agent Carter to have more POC as well but it is highly suspect that THIS is the show people decided to boycott versus not just other tv but also the MCU.

I mean people have been complaining for a long time about the lack of female representation in the MCU (like how in the Avengers we only had Black Widow and she has yet to have her own movie) but with Agent Carter suddenly that female representation doesn't matter?

Not that I think female lead shows should get a pass, because critiquing them for being all white is definitely something we should be doing. But if they boycott Carter and then go watch something white male driven then it does feel like they just don't care about female representation like they claimed.

Yeah it's boggling because we've been asking and asking for a female-lead anything for years and when we finally get one, it's then the WORST SHOW EVER according to SJW's.

I certainly agree that it's not above criticism just because it's a female-lead project, but I find it more than a little suspect that the same kind of vitriol is suspiciously absent when it comes to the rest of the MCU.

(I kind of dread the shit-storm that's going to hit when Captain Marvel arrives, if Agent Carter is anything to go by, but who knows, maybe they'll have gotten bored of the MCU by then).

Allow me to play internet psychologist:

I think it's partially guilt-driven on their part. They spent so much time and vitrol bringing MCU to task for not having a female-driven series/movie. Suddenly here it is and they don't really have any interest in it. Because they never had much interest in female-driven whatever to begin with. They were were just doing it for SJ brownie points.

So, they appease their guilt but declaring it NO GOOD ENOUGH!. "Marvel has failed! Now excuse us as we go back to drooling over the Chrises".

The thing is, it doesn't have to be this way. The could have their cake an eat it, too. For one thing, turn down the vitrol. Advocate for more diversity but don't be so angry and self-righteous about it. When more diverse media show up and they don't really have an interest, they can still promote it. "Here's this diverse thing. It's not really my cup of tea, but you might like it."
