For myself? Because I/we wouldn't be harassed on the street for holding hands? There would be no question as to the legitimacy of our marriage, regardless of what nation we find ourselves? It would be less strenuous on hypothetical children?

Not a fucking chance. I don't choose the people I fall in love with, it just kind of happens. It's a a series of conversations, how far things go, and that's something I would involve my partner in just as much as my own personal thought processes.

And since I don't want kids, and wouldn't wind up with someone who wants kids, that's a moot point. But it is another facet that would need consideration regarding responses to events, rather than "Should we be together FOR THE CHILDREN". There is adversity no matter where you go or who you are.

And for me, no way am I restricting myself to the opposite gender solely because it means strangers on the street treat me better when I hold my boyfriend's hand than when I hold my girlfriend's.
