Oh, and there's someone, maybe more than one someone, who's submitting their secrets twice to the same submission post. I would say 'careful with that submit button' but they're different links to the same secret. So patience people!!! Your secrets will get posted eventually!!

Amazon has used copies (http://www.amazon.com/Darkly-Dreaming-Dexter-Jeff-Lindsay/dp/other-editions/0307277887/ref=dp_ed_all?ie=UTF8&n=283155&s=books). Not super-cheap, but not mad pricey either. And torrents of etexts and audiobooks are findable.

Okay, so I lied. I can't find a book one that matches the book two I got two Christmases ago. I'm anal, what can I say.

Also something weirds me out about buying books online. I don't really know what it looks like till I get it. In the bookstore I decide which copy I'm getting by how not messed up the cover is.

If you really wanted to read it, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have cared/would have found a copy anyway. A book is a book, regardless of whether the cover is up to your aesthetic standards.

As for Lila, she was a good antagonist, but the books managed to keep interesting plotlines without her being all over the place. Hating her does ruin a large part of the season--it was impossible to watch it without continuously watching her poison spread and change Dexter into something he wasn't. At all. (The writers are responsible for this too, but Lila represents it.) I think that's what the OP meant.

No, I do really want to read it, I'm just that anal. I'm thinking of selling my copy of the first Artemis Fowl so I can buy it in hardcover to match the rest. I got pouty when I realized my Harry Potter collection weren't all the same edition (and I don't even like HP anymore). Good Omens is one of my favorite books but I almost didn't buy it in the bookstore because if I got the white one with Crowley on the cover I'd feel the need to get the black one with Aziraphale too. I'd always checked it out from the library before, and I'd do that here too, but my library doesn't have it.

And that's just on an individual basis, I guess. I hated Lila like nothing else but I loved the second season, so obviously they're exclusive to some degree. And yes, she was changing Dexter into something he wasn't--that was the point, that was the source of most of his internal conflict through the whole season, that's why he had no hesitations about killing her at the end. The fact that she killed Doakes was nothing more than the excuse he needed. He already wanted to do it.

And finally, you have to realize that the show is not the books. They don't even claim to be. They don't say "based on the books," they say "inspired by the books." They don't even try to hide that they're doing something completely different. The OP might have had a good point, yes, but they had a bad way of expressing it. There's no "true fans" of anything.
