However, if you ship a pairing, that does not mean you automatically think it's canon. I disagree with you there; I have a lot of respect for "the beauty and depth of friendship", as you put it. I think friendship is just as deep and powerful as love. I don't see it as demeaning to ship a couple (her or shounen-ai) romantically if it isn't canon because being in love isn't a demeaning thing; it's just a different way to look at their love. And just because I ship couple XYZ doesn't mean I actually think it will happen. I just think it would be really sweet if it DID happen.
And in regards to KuroFai, if you want to talk about demeaning relationships, the anime really does nothing BUT demean the source material. Even the authors have said they're not happy with it. With CLAMP, it's really tricky when it comes to canon because their couples hardly EVER say "I love you" or kiss outright. For some reason, with a few exceptions, their couples prove their love through other ways (usually by making some kind of "most important person" statement, though not always, and by sacrificing something BIG for that person.)
Anyway, the reason why a lot of us see KuroFai as canon is that in the manga (not in the anime, you're right) their relationship develops along the lines of a lot of similar canon Clamp couples. And Kurogane makes TWO, not one, VERY BIG sacrifices for Fai and Fai alone, and both refer to each other as "special" or "important" at different points in the manga. It's kind of hard to explain, in the manga Syaoran and Sakura are highlighted together and then Kurogane and Fai are too, and several parallels are made. But, of course, everyone is free to ship what they like; I just don't see them as a purely platonic couple.
A-anyway, I'm not trying to convert you or anything like that at all, I just wanted to explain my point of view as well. I don't think I'm demeaning the two because I see their love as romantic; I just have a different way of seeing things than you do, I think? (I-I hope none of that sounded rude, I really wasn't trying to be! XD)

i have read the manga, though, admittedly not alot of it. i guess i could make another "secret" that i always see anime and manga as two separate storylines, and therefore peparate "ship" opportunities. but i didn't really want to, because, this comm is mostly for the lulz i think. (dear Lord, this marks the first post ever that i used "lulz" in all sincerity.) but yeah. sorry, I'm not too coherent today. :)
oh! and jsut so YOU know (heehee, not that i care that much) I do realise the quality isn't great on Tsubasa anime. i just love it cause it seems to capture the spirit of what i first loved aobut Anime, namely, impossible feats and deep canon love. it reminds me a tiny bit of Rurouni Kenshin, in that sense.

Yeah, I can understand that. There's no way anyone would call KuroFai anything like canon if you've only read the first five volumes or something like that. All the development with the KF relationship doesn't really start showing itself until one specific world. The REAL moment where a lot of us went from "oh, it'd be so cute!" to "oh, I think it might actually happen!" doesn't happen until WAY later (volume...eh, in the teens somewhere, I can't remember exactly, but it hasn't been published in English yet) when Kurogane does something for Fai and Fai reacts very, very strongly to it.
But anyway, I'd agree, if you consider the anime and manga seperately there's not really much canon evidence, especially since they cut it off before this specific world (although the OVAs currently coming out ARE doing it! ♥) so a lot of the big, BIG changes in their relationship aren't known to anime-only fans.
But as you said, there's always room for debate and speculation, especially with authors who tend to be vague about these things like Clamp. ^_^
Aaah, sorry to ramble, lol XD Anyway, yeah, something doesn't have to be great for you to enjoy it! I like a lot of really lame things, lol. It's good that you enjoy the anime, if it makes you happy.
