honestly, I spent 60 hours in xenoblade just chillin' and exploring the landscape. and the quests. they're endless.

anyway, I haven't beaten xenoblade yet, but I think it's fun even aside from the story.

I'm with you OP. If I need to dump 60+ hours into a game before it 'gets good' forget it.

Yeah, I loved the other two of the 'top three semi-obscure Wii JRPGs that are often mentioned together', Pandora's Tower and The Last Story, but Xenoblade Chronicles never really caught my attention. I never see much about the characters or plot, just that the gameplay involves vague endless wandering about.

It has as much plot as any Xeno game before it. There's just actual gameplay and questing to do (which is not to pooh pooh the older ones. It just has longer breaks compared to Saga's half-hour cutscenes and Gears' text boxes).

I find this strange, because the last time I heard that was as a XIII disclaimer. The gameplay and vastness are there from the get-go. If they mean the plot--yeah, a big twist happens. But I doubt it would change your perspective if you're not already into it. It's mostly satisfying for me because I never thought a Xeno game would go beyond cult status, even if people think this one's too shounen. I can't wait for X next month!

It IS very long, though. My first playthrough was 90-100 hours, and I'm not at all hardcore. So I would look for something else if you want a shorter game, OP.

I dunno, I was pretty sold within the first half hour. And then I lost a few hours to questing, and then the next segment filled with death and screams sold me some more.

See, I think the fact that it gets better a fair chunk in isn't wrong, exactly, but the game had me from go, and I don't have any idea why you would try to sell the game that way wtf.
