Just like all those stories about women being raped at frat parties! They're just stories, after all!

You honestly don't think predatory men won't get into a kid's show that's got a large female fanbase, especially young girls?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-17 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I don't think so. Why would they?

Cool. Just remember not to take any candy from the nice man in the unmarked van.

The fact that you think that this is how people abuse children speaks volumes about you.

It's never a "man in an unmarked van." It is damn near 100% of the time a relative or another person the child trusts: a parent, an aunt or uncle, a cousin, a teacher. The only way we're going to make any progress on halting abuse of children by predators is if we stop "other"ing them, making them out as bogeymen easily identifiable by any person that looks at them.

da

making a candy from strangers joke means that that's the extent of your knowledge about child abuse, now? please.

It's a joke that doesn't mean anything in this context. They're saying that bronies are getting into children's cartoons in order to stalk and abuse them-- like a "man in an unmarked van."

So, I mean, both bogeymen intended to make people paranoid. Which I guess functions after all.

it was a joke about the supposed naivety of the anon they were referring to, not about bronies...

Aside from what other anon is saying, it's still not a cool joke.

it's a priest a lot of the time....

It is never 100% of the time a relative. That's disgusting and you're a disgusting human being.

There ARE children who are kidnapped from grocery stores, from parks, from other places. And you're doing a huge disservice by ignoring this to make it 100% about relatives. I'm not denying relatives abuse. But I still remember news reports of kids who were preyed upon by strangers over the Internet turning up dead in parking lots around here.

key word: predatory

Re: Steven Universe vs. Friendship is Magic

(Anonymous) 2015-03-18 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. But there are WAY easier ways to prey on kids than getting obsessive with a show and going to a con. Especially a con where men are already mistrusted.

Re: Steven Universe vs. Friendship is Magic

(Anonymous) 2015-03-18 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Then you're stupid and insanely naive.

A predator is going to seek out something to lure victims with. A show is a good one.

Please stop talking as though you know anything about sexual predation patterns. You're embarrassing yourself and boring everyone else.

Just admit you're scared of guys touching your stuff and giving it Reverse Cooties.

Re: Steven Universe vs. Friendship is Magic

(Anonymous) 2015-03-18 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No.

I know some pretty cool guys into SU. Men work on the show.

But I'm not stupid like you and yeah, I know a bit about sexual predation patterns because I was almost the fucking victim of one. So quit with the "PREDATORS ONLY GO AFTER THEIR FAMILY" stuff.

Re: Steven Universe vs. Friendship is Magic

(Anonymous) 2015-03-18 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, but at this point you've been attacking your own credibility so hard that I assume "I was almost the victim of a sexual predator" means "A guy in a car asked me for directions once." You've been working pretty hard at convincing us that not only do you not know what you're talking about, but you're insulted by the idea that it's possible to know what you're talking about.

Re: Steven Universe vs. Friendship is Magic

(Anonymous) 2015-03-18 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, you have a hypothesis that seems intuitively true to you. Good start.

Now test it. Find citations of men sexually harassing young girls at MLP conventions. Start by finding one. Then find some more. This will prove your hypothesis. If you do not find, say, four, that will disprove your hypothesis.

If you're starting to think of reasons why that's a mean thing for me to suggest, you might want to wonder whether you actually believe your own hypothesis.

It's not like there can't already be predatory men in large female fanbases already. It's not always some easily identifiable bad guy like bronies. Some of the worst offenders can be that cool tumblr blogger guy who's really into SJ. I've already seen some of those dudes outed as predators and abusers. The shit is already there. Tumblr people can be really bad at spotting when one of their own is acting inappropriately.

I'm sorry, but this is a "All thumbs are fingers but not all fingers are thumbs" situation.

All grown men who are rapist perverts will be attracted to a kids show with a large female fanbase, but not all grown men who are part of a fanbase that's largely female will be rapist pervers
