Wolf Larsen (but I'm kind of biased by him being pretty much my favorite fictional character ever).

The descriptions of him in the book are super slashy. And he was played by a handsome actor in the German movie, 2006 I think.

I didn't find them all that slashy since the narrator kinda did that to everyone and it was the time period/London's overall style of writing (you see it in White Fang/Call of the Wild/etc, too). Plus everyone turns out straight in the end in the love story I really, really disliked -

It's weird, my favorite character ever is from the book that also pisses me off the most - I COULD RANT A LOT about how Humphrey and Maud did NOT deserve to call themselves the good guys or good people at all, but more like self-interested-neutral who thought they were better than everyone purely because they were more civilized - not that Wolf Larsen wasn't a complete villain but at least he was self-aware about it instead of making excuses and assuming he was the good guy - but er probably nobody wants to hear it.

Haven't seen the movie, is it worth watching/true to the book/subtitled?

I liked it due to slashiness, so no idea if it might appeal to you. It's quiet true to the book, though Humphrey is more domineering here than in the novel. I hate the ending, so I usually just scroll by. Maud was quite unremarkable, imo, so the romance kind of flew me by.

Agreed on the writing style of olde. Still, Sea Wolf hit me as especially inviting for slashy interpretation, all those paragraphs of how he's the most handsome man ever, etc. Of course it has no actual slash in it.)

I like the book pretty much purely for the character of Wolf Larsen, so if it's true to the book I think I'll check it out!

Humphrey and Maud both kind of bored me because they were such typical "average Plucky People With Morals" (who end up abandoning the rest of the crew to just die but their supposed higher morality conveniently ignores that part because criminals and commoners anyway, right lol arghhh - and I sense I am ranting again)
