*sneaks in late*

I'm feeling a bit down cause my dogs played rough with a kitten in my yard. Or, at minimum, they chased it and got it kinda muddy and there's a cut on its toe but not sure if it already had that as quite clean and no blood.

Gave it a bath. Have found owners and handed it back but I'm feeling a little bit bad that the poor kitten got such a shock. I hope it wasn't hiding behind the shed for long.

Also baffled how such a tiny kitten got over such a giant fence.

Someone reassure me it won't be stupid enough to come back into my yard. :C _{The dogs are big and bouncy and kitten is so small.}

If the encounter with your dogs gave it a scare, then chances are it will likely avoid your yard in future. If it's a very young kitten then it might not have 'sunk in' yet and it might wander back, so just keep an eye out in case. But in general, cats are very good at learning what and where to avoid within their territory -- a neighbor's cat once hated dealing with my cat (who, admittedly, was scarily territorial and prone to terrorizing every other cat who wandered into our yard) so much that she'd wait until mine came indoors before she'd cross our back fence to get to fields on the other side. Cats, at least for the most part, try to avoid direct confrontation.

And as a cat owner, if it was my kitten you rescued and even cleaned up before tracking me down and giving it back, I wouldn't think you could have done anything more. I'd also feel very irresponsible if I was a halfway competent pet-owner -- anyone who owns very young animals need to be more careful about letting them wander around unsupervised, and after all your dogs were in your own yard, not wandering around in the street.

I hope so anon. I'm not sure of kittens age. The teeth are pretty clean and sharp and it's small? Young teenager maybe.

I'll keep an eye out when I'm around but this happened when I was at work. Hopefully the neighbours will trim their tree so she can't use it to get into my yard :s

I hope they don't let it keep straying - I'm not the only house with large and bouncy dogs. Just the closest

It's not really a question of whether or not the kitten is stupid enough to get into your yard, though. It's a question of whether or not the owners are stupid enough to let the kitten out again.

I'm sorry you had to deal with it, because it's not your responsibility. Your dogs are safely fenced in your yard, which should ideally keep them safe from cars and other dogs and keep smaller animals and children safe from them. Cats should be indoors or in an outdoor enclosure.

People who let their pets out with no supervision make me angry.

I've seen her once before I think - although I thought she was bigger do maybe that was her mum or something. I do wish they didn't let the young ones out :( she's definitely not grown. Idk how much cats roam but I really hope it was a curious one off.

It's definitely not my fault but I still feel bad for the poor thing. It got off so lightly. My dogs are cat friendly but there's no way id let then play with a cat unsupervised - they're just too big and bouncy!
