It's sad because Marvel and DC both realize that's a problem when it comes to attracting new readers so they keep rebooting and releasing new titles, but all that does is get things more convoluted and messed up. It's a shame, superhero comics are great fun, but they can be so inaccessible to new readers.

I just settled for reading random Batman trades whenever I find one that looks cool and have accepted that I'll never actually understand the DC universe. *rueful*

It doesn't help that they keep cancelling or hiatus-ing (in Marvel's case) and re-re-booting (in DC's) the books that are particularly well-designed for new readers. :/

It's easy, you just jump right in! No one knows what's going on at all. Not even the writers. My one friend, Matt, has to keep asking the editors for updates every week so he doesn't fuck up his comic. Hah. Seriously.

I stopped caring about it really, on a hiatus from reading comics because the whole Infinite Crisis/52 thing pissed me off so much.

Last book I read had about half of both universes dead. So. "rocks fall, everyone dies"
