"So Phoenix" in that it was dumb as hell? :/ Seriously, it was just... awful. In order to make it happen, they had to turn Phoenix into a blithering idiot and remove two of his closest friends from the face of the earth. It was catastrophically handled.

Phoenix accepted responsibility for the situation before Zakku ran out. And at any rate, it doesn't matter that he didn't fabricate the evidence, he submitted it. Who--on a panel like that--would believe him if he claimed that he didn't fabricate it, anyway?

1) Phoenix didn't automatically present the evidence in the courtroom, either. He hesitated and had a bad feeling about it. Thats plenty of hesitation enough from a guy who trusts his clients implicitly.

2) It's likely enough that Phoenix suspected Klavier of having a hand in the whole ordeal, but any research would have turned up nothing suspicous on the prosecutor, and Klavier wouldn't have ratted his brother out to the person who he thinks forged the evidence, anyway.

3) Phoenix knew he was set up, and he even had a suspicion who it was. Of course it's easy to assume Edgeworth and Maya would have heard or helped him out at some point. We just don't see it. Why would Phoenix tell Apollo? Any investigation, with friends or without, just didn't work out. "Oh and there were these other guys and they did the same fruitless investigation with the same fruitless results with me too." He's not going to spill out his whole backstory in an angstrific purge. Although he appreciates his friends, he's (vocally) wildly sarcastic in his treatment of them. We see in his thoughts he trusts them but we can't see his thoughts anymore.
