#26 - a good place to start would be scans_daily and then start asking comic book fans for write ups. The quickest and best way to get into comics is too find someone who already is, and then hit wikipedia. There are also novelizations of major story arcs that can help you catch up.

If you're asking what comic book character to start with - the big three are Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman - I would start there. [You have a DC picture - that's why I say this.] Also, you don't need to catch up on 30 or 40 years of comics, I promise! I would also recommend trades as a way to go. You might even be able to borrow them from the library.

That all being said, most of us who like comics just choose one at random. My first Nightwing comic was #25, I got lucky, and I have never stopped being in love with the character. But as a caution of warning: Even crazy fans, ones who know everything -- most of them still can't match up time lines, it's just too much, so don't worry if you miss stuff. So does everyone else. Including the writers of the comics.
