I thought the basic premise of Grimm was interesting and I watched it for a while but it never did anything to get out of the restraints of being like every-supernatural-show-ever. It can be entertaining but it's nothing special.

So I guess I could see the Angel comparison in that way.

Grimm: Or Kolchak the Nightstalker, the Reboot.

KOLCHAK. I haven't watched that in years, and now I must again.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Last time I saw it broadcast was in the 1990s in the UK on a late night horror anthology segment presented by Richard O'Brien. It has been a while.

Points for getting a dig in at both shows.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Why Angel in particular?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I got into it in the beginning and everyone was like IT'S LIKE SUPERNATURAL BUT NOT. I've stopped watching since early this season though when Rebel came around. Not that I didn't like Rebel, but with the other shit happening with Nick I just lost interest.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Rebel? Do you mean Trubel? Because she left quite awhile ago.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see the similarities tbh. They're both supernatural shows. That's about it.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I don't see much in common between those two, besides both having supernatural creatures.

Somewhat related: I finally ragequit the show last night. I didn't like Trubel much, but I absolutely loathe the "Adalind and muh baby(-ies)" story and the latest episode broke the camel's back. Plus I have now waited for four seasons for them to get somewhere with the Royals-Resistance-Mysterious Keys plot, which is still pretty much exactly where it was during season one, and I've had enough.

Nope. Not seeing it unless you're referring to the 'monster' (and face it, to the Vesen Nick is a monster) is the good guy central concept they both share. Otherwise, no.

The stubble of the man on the left looks very nice. The man on the right has good facial hair, too.

Oh beardy fan, I do enjoy your contributions to F!S

Oh why thank you kind anon!

I reckon you've either never seen Grimm or you've never seen Angel.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-22 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
You reckon wrong.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-22 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, then you weren't paying attention for at least one of them.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-21 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Grimm is a rip off of Fables when Fables was still good.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-22 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
As David Greenwalt co-created both shows, I don't think he can be considered as ripping himself off.

I can see the similarity in atmosphere so idk why people are finding this hard to believe.

I think Torchwood was more of a pale attempt to imitate Angel than Grimm is, by far!

(Anonymous) 2015-03-22 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I saw a breakdown of this the other day, and crikey it was spot on. Torchwood is Angel.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-22 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Complete with brooding immortal hero.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-22 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
This, all of it.

I like Grimm well enough, but not enough to get into the fandom. Angel I loved and includes many of my best fandom memories. Could say Greenwalt was hoping to recapture some of the Angel magic with Grimm, but would hardly call it a rip off.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-22 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
I only watched a few eps, but it didn't remind me of Angel. Angel was a lot more interesting. And the special effects were better.

I never really clicked with the show, but I will give it points for being set in Portland. It's always nice when writers realize that the U.S. is comprised of places other than NYC & L.A.

LOL at Monroe sticking his head up at the bottom there.
