Well you admitted your problem OP, you don't create much. Even if something isn't great quality, in order to gain a following you have to get yourself out there. And you have to do it a lot and for a while too.

I have a small following and when friends ask me about it, I'm essentially like, "Well, I upload things..."

I feel this way about twitter. I'm conflicted because I don't really *get* twitter and I have nothing much to say to the world, but on the rare occasion that I do say things and they get ignored, I sometimes feel sad.

I get that Twitter is good for people who are already famous. Or people who have friends. The reason I quit Twitter was because I always felt out of place and ignored and the people I follow (including friends) tweeted nothing of value.

Just keep in mind, OP. Many people who become "suddenly" famous have actually been working in their industry for years. They just had to wait for the good luck fairy to finally turn the lens their way.

Internet fame works the same way. It takes either constant output and longevity, or an insanely lucky roll of the dice.

So there is hope, even if you don't create much. You don't even have to be good (see the BNFs in a lot of fandoms)...

I don't like YouTubers either, mostly because all they have to do is screech about a video game and it's like, instant internet fame.

But there does have to be effort expended to get anything in return.

Well, you've said you don't create much so that would probably need to change. Not sure if it's so much that you can't be internet famous as you haven't 'hit it lucky' yet. Though...often internet fame doesn't last, right? (Or you get famous and yea, have lots of fans but gain just as many haters. Granted, you might not care because of the money or attention, but it can't be all pleasant.)

If this is something you truly want, then I wish you luck. Maybe if you keep trying you'll get there one day.

Try reading Tila Tequilas entire biography. You will never want to be internet famous again.

I like YouTubers. I like that somebody's getting something out of it, I'm just sorry it's not me.

Text: The increased ease of content creation and transmission in the Internet Age

What I say

pros:
“anyone” can be famous

cons:
“anyone” can be famous

What I feel

pros:
“anyone can be famous”

[in red] cons:
but not me >:’(

[black]Secret because I haven’t created much in the first place despite having access to adequate resources. And I’ve done jack shit to deserve any positive attention.

Bonus: this is why I’m not into YouTubers, in particular.

Anyone can become famous =/= everyone can become famous. There really isn't room for everyone to become famous (just as there isn't room for everyone in America to attain the American Dream. Not becoming famous doesn't mean there's anything wrong with you or your work (or me or my work, for that matter) it just means that we haven't had the luck.
