but I don't understand, how can you not like Vimes. It's Vimes.

Not OP. Vimes is annoying because he's a mouthpiece for Pratchett and normally Pratchett is was much more subtle than that. Also, he gets to both be the Common Man and hang out with the aristocracy, which is something I dislike in any piece of fiction.

I don't like the rest of the major characters of the Night Watch either, but mostly because of Vimes clogging up the place.

Yeah, I think this is why I've never warmed to Vimes. I can feel Pratchett's fondness for this character over all his other characters and it's just intrusive enough that I don't see Vimes as a character, only as Pratchett's stand in.
