Re: Writing a Good OC (and/or recs?)

I was excited about an OC thread then realised you meant a fandom OC. :( Ah well

I assume you thought I meant original fiction? Feel free to bounce off of this with one!

DA--i think anon might have meant the show, The OC. When my brother and I were roomies we watched it faithfully for the first two season, it was so much fun. And then I sort of drifted away after my bro moved out, oddly. I still get happy when I see the actors in anything else! (And I should find those first two seasons on DVD. I thought they were really enjoyable!)

No, I meant original fiction. Usually when you say OC, it's original fiction and original characters in established universes are "fandom OC"s

Must depend on your corner of fandom? OC has always meant "original character" where I've gone.

ayrt

OC always does mean original character. What I meant was OC = original character full stop, implying an original universe, and fandom OC = original character in an established universe. That's how I've seen it designated

Oops, sorry! I never hear people refer to "OCs" when they're referring to their original fiction, because, well, they're understood to be OCs. Although an awful lot of the people I know who write original fiction aren't also fanfic writers so I suppose that might be it. But when I talk about my unpublished mysteries I never refer to OCs.

We should do an original fiction thread.
