Re: Writing a Good OC (and/or recs?)

I just try and make them act like realistic people, with their own likes, dislikes, quirks, and flaws. I also try to be conscious of existing stereotypes and write them so they're not cookie cutter clichês.

But then I've never understood the fandom hate for OCs. Yeah, yeah, there are lots of bad OCs, Mary Sues, self-inserts, etc. That doesn't seem like a very logical reason to hate all OCs as a knee jerk reaction, though.
