Re: Writing a Good OC (and/or recs?)

I find the OCs I like, as a reader, are the ones that start off to fill a minor role and slowly get fleshed out as the story carries on. They aren't the main character as that role is usually reserved for a canon character, but they can grow in the storyline to become someone who is just as important, as long as you don't push it and keep their development slow.

If you have a minor background role, like a servant or a workmate or the guy who owns a tavern or something, it never hurts to give a name and thus create a minor OC.

If you have an OC who has a noticeable secondary character role and also has some sort of powers (if it's a fandom with magic/superpowers), don't have them taking over the story from the main character. The OC is still there as a supporting character.
