It gave me nightmares so I sympathize, anon.

I was forced to play Amnesia: The Dark Descent with a friend, too. And I HATE horror. I kind of am intrigued by creepy things, but I hate surprise scares. It's bad enough in movies, but in games it's all the more terrifying because now your life is in your own hands.

The worst part was that my friend, who loves horror, was really bad at the game. She loved to freak out and scream, and then I was forced to take over the controls to try to maneuver us into a closet each time. Worst friend ever!

I don't like to play horror games either.

I used to be petrified of zombies, to the point where I slept with a baseball bat beside the bed and gave myself panic attacks during thunderstorms because I kept thinking the next noise I heard would be shuffling footsteps and moaning.

Then I watched Shaun of the Dead. The combination of horror and comedy was just right, and while zombies still freak me out a little, it's not nearly as bad as it was.

Oh man, can I sympathize with that - zombies freak me out really bad too, and I've started keeping a sturdy walking stick next to my bed. :) I recently moved into town after having lived in the country most of my life and it's messing with my sense of security a little. When you live out in the middle of nowhere, there's this safety buffer of knowing that if anything like a zombie apocalypse happened you'd hear about it well in advance, rather than finding out when you start hearing shuffling footsteps outside your windows.

It's okay, anon, I'm scared of zombies too! ^_^

But then I slept in a loft bad and felt better. It was only accessible by ladder, and everyone knows zombies can't climb ladders! (And neither could the house cat, who had fleas, so yay for me!)

I think the game can actually be worse because of immersion - so yeah, I get it.

This, definitely. I love horror films but horror games stick to me in a whole different way.
elaminator: (Uncharted 3: The end)

vague uncharted spoilers

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-03-22 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
That's how it is for me. I don't watch a ton of horror films, but there are only a couple that freak me out. (IT being the main one.) Most the others I've watched I found kind of hilarious instead of scary.

Horror games though...it doesn't take much to frighten me. Silent Hill, BioShock, Alan Wake, Outlast (which I haven't actually played and don't plan to), they all get to me.

Hell, it doesn't even have to be a horror game! Uncharted has a couple sections that absolutely terrify me (the mutated humans from the first game, and then the Guardians from the second), and the Berserkers from Gears of War always make me want to piss myself.

OMG those mutated things in the first game. And they're in a leaky, dark basement. I forced myself to play that whole section all in one go because if I stopped part-way I knew I'd be too scared to go back and finish.

Right? I love Uncharted (it's one of my favorite franchises), but I always dread that section of the game soooo fucking much. Darkness is a big fear of mine as well, especially in games because I just KNOW something god-awful is going to pop up out of nowhere and scare the bejeezus out of me, so that was a difficult level. I remember having to make a run for a lever or something (to power up a generator, I think?) and standing there on that platform not wanting to press the damn button because I knew the mutated people were going to rush me. Dammit Sully, I need you to take care of this shit for me!

Oh, and what you did was smart! I always try to get through those sections asap too. Having to start back up there...god, no.

Now that I think about it, the Tomb Raider reboot had a few freaky ass sections too.

I've always been too afraid to actually play any of the Resident Evil games, I can't handle the thought of everything jumping out at me. So I watch my brother play instead, because watching makes it like a movie/show and that I can handle.

I remember when Silent Hill 1 came out. It scared the bejeezus out of me. (Nowadays almost nothing scares me) But Resident Evil never did... until I played REmake.

Hospital storeroom in Silent Hill 3.

YES, I REMEMBER YOU TELLING ME ABOUT THAT, AHAH.

It's a good way to kill time when brushing my teeth, part of my ritual really.

Everyone's going to laugh, but my biggest fear in all the Resident Evil series (it all started with the sewers in RE2)? Web Spinners.

Text: A friend of mine is insisting that I play this with him.

I love the story and the puzzles but I’M FUCKING TERRIFIED!

I’m so paralyzed by fear, all my instincts go out the window. Every time a zombie appears I just wanna run away and hide.

I don’t even watch horror movies because they scare me too much and this is even worse :(

Same here. Unless the game is House of the Dead, your reactions are exactly as mine whenever there are horror games and movies.

Strangely though, I really like the creations from Heinoustuck, especially Heinous Dave (WARNING: it has blood and gore and face/mask mutilation). He awesome, even though he's scary.

resident evil scared the life out of me when it came out, I refused to play it if my siblings left the room and left me alone playing it
