I am an all or nothing kind of person when it comes to things like this; I'd rather not support someone who says things that demean part of my identity.

I think the issue here is not "says things that demean part of [your] identity" but "said a thing once, like ten years ago, which they apologized for" and yet they're still regarded as complete trash omg hdu worthless waste of life

I am all for disliking celebs that are consistently shitty and unapologetic about it. That's not what OP is talking about, tho

Exactly. For me there really is a difference between "Said something problematic five years ago" and idk Chris Brown and Sean Penn.

ALSO there is a difference between "I can't like this celeb because of reason xyz so I try to avoid them" and "HOW DARE YOU LIKE THIS PIECE OF TRASH THEY SAID *insert quote from 1998 here*"
