As someone who has really strong opinions about the height of one specific comic-book character, and used to get in arguments about it, I feel you.

Oooh, height is a big one for me too. There's this popular pairing I like where one character is about 5 inches taller than the other, but it's so common for artists to draw the shorter one barely reaching the taller one's shoulders and my god it makes me so mad. Like, how can you claim to care about these characters when you don't even bother to get such basic features of them right?

I think part of it is it seems to be a symptom of that awful fandom tendency to exaggerate certain features of characters (both physically and their personalities) to the point where they're unrecognisable caricatures.

Oh man, I have a pairing like that, too. One half is canonically 7 inches shorter than the other half, but there's this swath of fandom that's gotten it into their heads that she's 13 inches shorter than him, and that's how they write and draw the pairing. I think it's because they think it's cute to have her have to do things, like, stand on top his feet and pull herself up to be able to kiss him, but it drives me bonkers. Like, guys, first of all, there's a wiki that proves you wrong, and second of all, it's really, really obvious in the source material that she's not as short as you want to think she is.

Wow, I've been raised metric and this is just all korean to me right now. Like, when I read "7 inches" I go, OK, so one inch is like more than twice a centimeter, so it's double that plus some, so... probably like 25 centimeters? lol.
So, I'd probably be one of he people who overdo the height-difference-thing. On the other Hand, I don't claim to a) be exact with fanart or b) be an "expert" on any of the characters... if I like a certain difference for aesthetic reasons, I might bend the "actual" value to my liking. (read: not even fucking look it up) I think compared to stuff like genderbending that's not much, is it?

I don't even get the height thing. I actually DO have a couple characters with over a foot height difference between them and it's HELLISH to draw! When one character only comes up to the other's armpit, you have to come up with some pretty sneaky paneling and posing so you can fit both of them in it nicely.

Seriously, after a certain point, the height difference becomes a royal PAIN.
