A lot of people are just so incapable of separating the actor from the role it's creepy.

Small anecdote.

I knew a guy who played a minor part in a soap series. We talked about it once, and he said people on the street would call him Character NAME, which fair enough, but it went further than that. People would call him out on the characters actions, like "why were you rude to you dad!" etc etc. Like the poor guy can help it! So yeah, just treat them like an actual person.

I always feel so bad for nice actors who play roles of mean characters because it seems like there really is a large portion of the population that can't separate fiction from reality.

I think the last example I can think of is the guy who played Joffrey in GOT, he seems like a sweet guy and he's a young actor and if anything he should get praise for how well he played his role. But then of course, he was Joffrey so anyone who can't see that the actor is different is going to harass him.

I feel stuff like that can be bad for typecasting, too. I thibk the guy who played Joffrey doesn't want to act anymore - but even if he did,every role after this people would be seeing Joffrey.

I was watching a thing about the soap Neighbours recently (it's just had a big anniversary) and one of the actors said someone gave him their condolences when his character's wife died!
