Your boyfriend would accuse you of being broody for that?

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-03-24 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Probably, yeah, since me saying I like a kid would be completely OOC for me.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-23 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto, OP. Maybe it's because I'm Asian and this is pretty close to what my kid would look like if I had one, but it made me a little bit sorry I'm not having kids. Not sorry enough to, you know, actually HAVE one, but still.

"I wouldn't mind a daughter like that"

Like what, exactly? I don't remember anything about Young Mako as a person. Adult Mako, sure, but... what did you see in that scene that you wanted?

OP

Besides cute? Sort of tough, and self-reliant if we're to believe her flash-back scene. Sure, she cries, but she also keeps going. Also she grows up to be an awesome woman.

Oh fuck off.

Same, OP, even though there's no chance of me having a daughter like Mako. I feel you on the smug friend thing though, ugh. Every single time I say I don't want kids, "Oh you'll change your mind!" If my parents don't care whether or not I have children, why do you?!

One of my friends is about to have her second baby in May and she's always going on about how she can't wait until my best friend and I have kids of our own. Neither of us have the heart to tell her that chances are slim that either of us would have kids. My best friend is more likely to have a child, but I would imagine some time farther in the future.

I felt this way about Henry in the first few episodes of OUaT.

She was an amazing little actress and that scene was gripping. My dad doesn't really get emotional over kids on screen and even he was like "I wanted to give her a hug" and couldn't stop talking about how affecting she was. Makes sense that it would drive your maternal instincts for a moment, but it's awesome that you know whether or not you want to have kids. It's way better to know that and not bring them into the world if you don't want them because of societal pressure.

I wanted a daughter like that too. Got a hyper rules lawyer of a son. He's awesome, yeah, but if you know you're more or less CF, OP, go with that. The odds are not in your favor.

ETA: I did read the whole secret but for some reason didn't fully comprehend the last sentence. Yay for knowing yourself and don't let anyone tell you you don't. Also have you seen the video for Vienna Teng's "Breaking Light" with Pacific Rim footage? It's awesome. :)

I know exactly what you mean. I definitely do not want to have kids in real life, but I look at fictional kids and see how awesome they are? Like Lucy from Narnia. If I could have Lucy, sure, I'd have a kid, but that's not exactly how it works. I want storybook kids, lol.

Image: young Mako Mori, crying, holding a red shoe

Text: Little Mako Mori is pretty much the only kid that ever made me doubt my decision not to have children.

Looking at her, I thought: “Yeah, I wouldn’t mind a daughter like that.”

I can’t ever tell anyone, though. My boyfriend would think I’m getting broody, my parents would think “there is still a chance” and get their hopes up, and my friends would be all smug about how they told me I’d change my mind. (Which I really haven’t, because I still have no plans to reproduce in real life.)

Fictional children are usually idealized. I've seen few works where they actually act like real children. It never happens like in the movies.

The way I see it, having kids is like playing the lottery. You could get a really good one, or you could get a, um, "learn to love it" sort of child.

She was really cute in that movie, though. I'm with you there.
