Re: How to be more outgoing
The first time, it might be too new for you to fully process the flavour or texture of a food and you might be a bit scared of eating it. The second time you'll know what to expect, but it might not have been prepared properly. If you still absolutely hate it after the third time, chances are it's just not for you.
There are a few select foods that I have never been able to like even after trying them three times (sea urchin comes to mind) but almost everything else has been successful.
I think a large part of the problem with food is that a lot of the time people just don't know how to cook things. I thought asparagus came out grey and smelling like sulfur for my entire childhood until someone finally served it to me roasted just to brilliant green perfection with a drizzle of lemon and balsamic vinegar. Now, I love it.
