Agreed. My best beloved and I were extraordinarily impressed with Your Lie in April, not just the art, but the story. The youngsters actually felt like extremely intelligent, sophisticated 13-year-olds. The girl started out like a magic pixie dream girl, but became real. She went out fighting, and the stry was as much hers as the male lead. The final episode was pretty much a teeny-tiny masterpiece.

The entire anime is to convey those emotions of despair and struggle, as well as how music had connected the two of them. I'd say the story spoke for itself.

Despair and struggle, yes, and also joy and connection and growth. All in all an A+ series as far as we were concerned.

Most of all growth, you could actually go through the anime and see how the main character directly changes in the anime.
