I.. can only assume you are either a) a troll, or b) don't know what Brit/Ameri-picking actually means.

It has nothing to do with translation. It has to do making sure your fanwork is accurate to the canon. It's making sure characters in the UK aren't cruising down the 'Interstate' to London at '75mph' and chatting about stopping for 'gas' at a Valero or something. -Picking is just another form of cultural fact-checking for fics, just like making sure things are historically accurate, or making sure your OCs have names that fit the setting, or whatever else. It has nothing to do with arrogance, it has to do with crafting a story.

Random aside, but people in the UK would actually use MPH when describing speeds. Our road signs designate speed in MPH. KM/h is more of a European thing.

I thought they meant that it was above the official speed limit.

But the commenter below is right, everyone adds on 10% to the limit anyway as apparently that's the limit of the accuracy of speed cameras. 75 mph on a Sunday night on a clear road isn't that uncommon.

Ah, they might be. I just assumed that since all their other examples were of terminology that it was an MPH/KMH thing. I've spoken to many Americans (and others) who assume the UK uses KMH because of the confusing way we and the rest of Europe handle imperial vs. metric measurements. While we've 'officially' adopted the metric system as part of the EU (and legally, produce etc. should have the metric weights and measures listed), the imperial system is still far more widely used in daily life.

the eu wants us to change everything to metric, including miles/km, but the cost of replacing every single road sign in the country was deemed not worth it

75mph sounds about reasonable for a motorway, maybe a little slow though. Nobody obeys the 70 limit anyway. Even the cops don't pull you until you are doing over 85mph now. Not unless you are doing something other than speeding anyway.

Not unless you live in my city. They fucking changed the speed limit from 65 to 55 because of pollution problems, which I call bull on. We aren't freakin' California here. Outside the city, it's 65/70.
