not op but dang, thanks for the heads up. i'm writing a hp fic atm & i was totally unaware of that sunset thing! i always forget other places have day light savings

Not English but I accept it also has to do with geography - London is as far north as Calgary, after all.

B-b-but Calgary doesn't get dark at 2 p.m. in the afternoon - and Edmonton is further north, and it doesn't get dark at 2 p.m. Unless we're talking solar eclipse...

But what about Scotland

It's pretty dark at 2pm in Scotland, and it's almost totally dark in London by about 3:30pm in December, in summer, June and July, it's light until about 10pm in London, 11 ish in Scotland.

It might be a mountain thing? My hometown is near the rockies, so it gets dark before sunset because the sun goes behind the mountains.
