Honestly, it's odd to me that Britpicking became such a big deal in the first place. I've read fic for fandoms set in the US where characters talk about their bollocks and how their bloody torch is broken which sucks because they hate eating crisps in the dark... and I never felt ~~torn out~~ of the story or anything like that. I mean, it can get to the point where it's so pervasive that the fic isn't enjoyable, but in those cases the characterization was already really off. Using the wrong dialect was just a symptom of the real problem, and all the Brit/Ameripicking in the world wouldn't fix it.
