I'm the same way, except with horror games. But that's because I'm old and grumpy and I hate most horror games these days.

I've never thought of things that way but... now I think I'll start. The way you experience media as a child is really unlike any other reading or viewing you will do in your life.

The only thing I've heard about this fandom is that there's lots of creepy killer robot porn, and the fanbase is abusive and lives off wank.

Why are kids playing this game? Lmao. I suppose I was playing worse in my early teens, but still.

To be fair, the scares in the game are jumpscares and fridge horror; there's no gore, no actual violence, no swearing or sex or blood. It scares people who are like "I'M STUCK IN A ROOM WAITING FOR CREEPY-ASS CHUCK E CHEESE MASCOTS TO KILL ME" but it's not inappropriate otherwise.

Yea, I suppose that's true. The opening phone calls and the image of the blood soaked mascots when you die are creepy, but I guess depending on the kids age those might not fully sink in.

Idk, maybe I'm getting old, lol.

I know a lot of kids who have played this game because Markiplier plays it. That's their reason, though. I'd guess a lot of kids saw a Youtuber or a friend play it and want to try it for themselves.

Ah, I didn't know he (Or other YouTube celebs) was so popular with kids. In my defence, I don't actually know many, haha. But that makes sense!

Kids have a different mindset than adult, we don't always really know what kids like even though many adults like to think they do. And like anon below said, Markiplier and other Lets players playing it helps.

I've never cared much about the fandom or the game, but recently I've came across this: http://www.reddit.com/r/fivenightsatfreddys/comments/2yikv0/something_cool_that_happened_with_me_and_a/
and it makes me happy, just knowing that threre are kids who like and be comforted to it, is enough to make me see it in a slightly better light.

It never occurred to me that YouTube let's plays would be so popular with children. Don't know why... But that would be an easy introduction into these type of games, yea.

I don't claim to know what's a hit with kids though (as I know very few), I just figured it might be a little scary for them. It isn't in the same league as something like Silent Hill though, and maybe they just see it as a fun game.

That post is really cute. That shirt creeps me out, but it's adorable how happy the chatting and tickets made the kid. That dude is a winner for giving the kid something to be excited about. (I wish there were more stories like this to come out of fandom, rather than all the abuse and wank.)

Even though that story is nice, it still doesn't excuse that steaming turd of a game.

Text: No matter how bad or mediocre a media is

my impression of it goes up if lots of kids like them

Not just this particular game. Though I do think of it as boring, and not very scary, some rl stories of the fandom I’ve read recently warms my heart.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
If a media is bad or mediocre or overrated, nothing will change my unfavorable impression of it.
