I never got Groot's appeal. He had funny moments, but I didn't find anything actually interesting about him (certainly not a personality, which imo he only lightly had), and his "death" scene was pretty generic. I was far more touched by Rocket's reaction. And I found the dancing baby Groot pretty cheesy, too. He seems to be a fan favorite, but I don't get it. Well, I guess I didn't like Olaf from Frozen either, so maybe I'm just heartless or something.
