I think they were a bit beyond pick up lines at that point. I assumed they had been going at it already.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm actually recoiling a bit just reading it. I can't imagine what I'd do if a guy tried to use this as a pick up line but it would probably involve an immature EWWWWWWWWWWW face.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there's more context to it, though, which OP didn't let on. They were arguably already together by the time he wrote that. It wasn't a pick-up line so much.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I still wouldn't be thrilled to hear that from a boyfriend, to be honest.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, me either. Some people are into that kinda thing though.

I wholeheartedly agree, but then I also think Ian McEwan is overrated, to put it mildly.

It's been a while since I read the book or watched the movie, but wasn't she not supposed to see that? I don't think he could believe it either.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
As far as I remember he just wrote it and it was found by the little sister. I don't know if it was meant to be seen by Cecilia though. It could have just been a rough draft that he would have tossed. I haven't read it in a long time so I don't recall.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never seen this movie, does James McAvoy actually say that??

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
In the book, he puts it in a letter. I haven't seen the movie.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's the same in the movie.

He writes it down in a letter he never meant to send.

I think in the book she was rather disaproving of that line, but they were both already really into each other and had a lot of sexual tension, I mean she stripped down to her underwear in front of him. They were both kinda blinded by young lust and were not shy showing each other as brazenly as possible.

I wouldn't reccomend using a line like that on someone you barely knew.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I completely agree. I have to read the book! That's missing in my life!

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Echoing others in that a) she wasn't supposed to read that and b) it probably worked because they were already really into each other.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Holy crap I want to see them bang now.

It didn't work as a pick-up line. It speaks for how well they know each other that he barely has to explain that he was just screwing around and didn't mean for her to see that version. It worked because they both had to respond to his apparent feelings in some way, whether the response was to ignore the whole thing or fuck like rabbits in the library.

Text: I still can’t buy that “in my dreams I kiss your sweet wet cunt” worked as a pickup line.

(Actually, their whole sex scene in the book felt weirdly creepy to me.)

*James McAvoy

I wouldn't mind an attractive guy saying that line to me, in fact I really wish it.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
It depends on the context though, whether it's creepy or sexy.
