Is the younger Pratchett even interested? She definitely has a sense of humor, but Overlord really wasn't the same style of comedy as what I've read of Discworld.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
She's unofficially edited the last book, the upcoming (maybe) "The Shepherd's Crown", but beyond that she has described her role as protecting Discworld as her father's legacy. I think the relevant quote as along the lines of protecting it even from herself. She does have the lead role in any future media adaptations though (although I think that has been the case for a while), but as far as writing, she's got her own stuff and doesn't want to take away from her father's own legacy.

Well, thank goodness your judgment is so much more discerning than that of the actual creator of the work, OP.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
...huh? they said that they thought it was nice that he trusted his daughter enough to take over the series for him. they just said that they personally couldn't bring themselves to read it

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
They also said they didn't want it to happen. Whether they read or not is up to them, of course.

Surely the OP is the best judge for what they should and should not read, anon. Are you suggesting otherwise? Do you pick which books you want to read, or do you allow authors dictate that to you?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
OP can decide what they want to read, but also said they didn't want to see the daughter continuing his books, when Pratchett clearly thought it was fine.

People who hate Rhianna Pratchett and want to stop her from writing anything again, ever, are objectively correct. Terry only approved her as a successor because he loved her, he was utterly blind to what a completely incompetent piece of shit she is.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that got out of hand.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
He's her dad. It makes sense that he loved her unconditionally regardless of her writing, that's what good parents do. Hope your hate boner cools down, though.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to give it a try, I think. If I like it, I'll keep reading her books. If not, I still have some Terry books left to read.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I would definitely give them a try.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Should I be embarrassed that my main takeaway from this is "Hey, Terry Pratchett's daughter is hella cute"?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, but Terry Pratchett's daughter is hella cute.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Terry Pratchett was hella cute too. Just me that one, is it?

Meanwhile I'm over here wondering when Terry Pratchett hung out with Ricki Lake and, more importantly, why?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to admit I am rather worried about what she'll do.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-26 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm more worried that she'll block the release of The Shepherd's Crown than anything else. Pterry always said he didn't want any unpublished material released (like Douglas Adam's estate did), but that was for unfinished stuff. Shepherd's Crown is basically ready to go, it is only the interior artwork that Kidby is/was still finishing up.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't heard about this.

I'll reserve judgement until I actually read any of them.

....why? She could capture his tone. Who knows? I mean, even she doesn't completely capture his tone, if teh books were still good, then what's the matter?

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'll probably give one a go, but I hope they've got her name on the cover, rather than her dad's. If her work's not great or the tone's totally different, I want it to be obvious to even casual readers that it's her work, not his. (And yeah I know his work suffered as his Alzheimer's progressed, I'm just weirded out when series continuations have the original author's name in big letters and the actual writer in like 12 pt. type.)

Image: Terry and Rhianna Pratchett

Text: I think it’s wonderful their relationship is so close that he was comfortable with her writing Discworld novels after his death.

But there’s no way in hell I’d want to see that happen and I’d refuse to read them if she did.

I...why are you talking like he's been dead for years? He died like two-three weeks ago!

I saw the pic, recognized Terry Pratchett, and thought "What is he doing next to Death?".
Then I read the text and it hit me that :
1) it's not actually a cosplayer of Death from the Endless, it's his daughter.
2) meh, awful confusion considering the timing :(
