I do miss general fandom discussions as well. At least, discussions that don't devolve into people yelling about everything and anything.

Yeah, some discussions went really OTT. I was once accused of hating OCs by someone for... no reason whatsoever. Ironically, I was actually very much in favor of OCs and criticized the Mary Sue Litmus test a lot. (But I was a small name fan so she had no way of knowing that. She got into fights with everyone though.)

Me too. What's really sad is that I think the "new" generation of fandom has no idea what that even is. Like, they think all fandom is is fests and smut. That's so not what it was for me, once.

But really, I think while LJ definitely lost that, it was also fansites and forums. LJ was a really good base for people from those sites, because... well, it ended up being kinda what FS is to the rest of fandom, except instead of one comm it was several comms or flists or whatever.

Either way, yeah, I miss the meta. And the excitement. No one seems more than moderately excited about stuff anymore, it's sad, really.

Really? On tumblr, everyone seems far too excited (and excitable) for my tastes.

I do miss the long rambling meta posts in LJ fandom. At least they were a bit more measured. But they were so hard to find. I always came across them far too late to join in.

I see plenty of meta on tumblr... but it's not really possible to discuss any of it because tumblr. You basically go OIC and either reblog or not.

I also see excitement... but a lot of it is very LOLRANDOM or zooms headfirst down with weird headcanons that have no connection to canon and such.

A few months ago, someone on f!s mentioned fail_fandomanon and I've been regularly going there since then.
There's a lot of different discussions and it's pretty neat if you enjoy anon spaces!

Text: The thing I miss most about fandom on livejouran is the meta. Now the best actual discussions I find are on FS, which is rather sad.

Also, I secretly wonder if I would have liked my last fandom as much without the intense arguments of what it all means.

But all I ever see on Tumblr are intense arguments about what it all means. Like, all the time. "Intense" and "argument" pretty much sums up fandom on Tumblr.

It's why I can't stand the place, but if that's what you're after OP your experience might be totally different to mine.
