Re: Legitimate fears

Tornadoes. I'm not in a super tornado prone city and my apartment has a basement, but I travel a lot for work, usually by car, and stay in a lot of motels, so I feel vulnerable. Also, lots of people don't take tornados seriously enough, so I feel like I'd have a hard time getting someone to tell me where I coud go for shelter if I'm away from home and the weather us turning bad.

Being in a car accident that leaves me really, really severely disabled. I would most likely have to completely give up my career, which is a significant source of fulfillment and happiness for me. My real fear is that I'd be forever single and, if I'm too disabked to work at all, I'd become a huge burden on my parents, who are about to retire, and then what happens when they die? When people are on TV talking about their life-changing accidents, they're always saying things like "I could have never survived without the support of my wonderful husband/wife and kids!" You don't hear the stories about the people who didn't already have the spouse and kids. Like, what would my chances of obtaining a family be in that situation? It's hard to articulate, but there's a lot about the idea that is far more terrifying than merely the loss of mobility, etc.
