(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 12:09 am (UTC)(link)I have literally never met a slash fan that doesn't support lgbt rights.
Ever.
The only ones I can think of are conservative men who watch lesbian porn.
But slash fangirls who think it's hot? They are overwhelmingly pro-lgbt. I've literally never seen an exception to this.
I do know of het writers who refuse to write slash and think homosexuality is wrong (on religious grounds) but they're not writing slash (obviously).

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 01:10 am (UTC)(link)And it goes without saying that slash fans who actually do these things are attention-seekers who are speaking over LGBT voices and should sit the hell down.

No, it's not enough if the anti-gay slurs pop out of your mouth at the first argument, or you put pressure on your bi partners to have threesomes for your benefit because obviously we can't be fulfilled unless we're swinging or on the down low. But, if you're going to turn into that kind of abusive shit, canvassing neighborhoods isn't enough either.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 01:29 am (UTC)(link)Some of the less intelligent ones sometimes flounce out of slash fandoms, claiming they've "outgrown" it and we're all "disgusting" which is always funny.

For the most part though the majority of slash fans I've interacted with are pro-LGBT rights, it's just not a guarantee that this is always the case.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 01:34 am (UTC)(link)And then there's the set that don't oppose gay rights, but do freak out at the thought of being in the same room as a lesbian.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 01:53 am (UTC)(link)Queer people won't lose their sleep if your favorite male characters are still dating women only instead of that male character you ship them with.
Maybe, just maybe, they only want more queer characters who are just like that and the fans don't need to try to convince the writers.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 03:11 am (UTC)(link)there's a very large segment of the asian-american community who are raised christian who are simultaneously 1) into anime and 2) conservative, which tends to brew this particular viewpoint, at least in my neighborhood.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-27 05:31 am (UTC)(link)Slash shippers are prone to be more tolerant to real life issues at least.
I never saw why that is a bad thing. At least blind love is better than blind hate. They always spread awareness for real issues which might otherwise have been overlooked.
Would it be better if they just ignored it all together? Just because someone ships slash doesn't mean they can't also be informed or want to be informed.
