Okay, so first off, the series had several 'arcs', and I apologize if I get them a bit mixed up. |D

First arc, the kids fighting against Lord Sparr, and trying to find Keeah's mother. Keeah's mother was turned into animals by the evil witch Demeter, but then it turns out that Demeter was actually Keeah's aunt, and the spell was to save Keeah's mother from Lord Sparr. Keeah breaks the spell, and decides to be a wizard, instead of a witch.

Meanwhile Sparr is trying to collect these three magic doodads to become Ultimate Magic Evil Dude, and Eric finds out that one of them was in his house, because Keeah and Demeter showed up at his house one time.

Next, Lord Sparr decided to wake up Ko, some super evil dude, only he accidentally turns himself into a child as well. A a kid, he hangs out with the kids, and it turns out that he was actually the youngest son of Queen Zara, who was kidnapped, and died while with Ko. Then he becomes an adult again.

At some point, Julie gets bitten/scratched by something called a "Wingwolf", and gets wingwolf powers (aka new powers as the plot demands, including flight, shapeshifting, etc.) Also, Eric has wizard powers. Because ??? And Neal is the only one without powers.

(There's also a future thing where we find out that Keeah and Eric tots get married in the future, which I'm okay with because OTP.)

Then Sparr turns into a good guy, and it turns out that the Wizard Galen was actually Sparr's older brother. Urik, the third older brother, turns out to be Eric's grandfather (? I think).

Then Ko, who's evil, takes in the evil version of Keeah, named Neffu, and wakes up his big boss, Gethwing, a "moon dragon", who's the final boss.

Also, Eric gets kidnapped and turned evil. Somehow? With a magic mirror, or something, but Julie and Neal are able to brew a potion that makes him good again, only then he has to keep pretending to be evil so that they can defeat Gethwing.

(Meanwhile Salamandra is in here, but she wasn't part of the complicated family structure, so...)

Neal does end up becoming a genie at some point, so that was nice. Finally, he gets powers!

Only Eric has now been set up as the "Harry Potter" of the trio, so the stories all about him (which wouldn't have been a problem, except the other books weren't all about him?)

AND they have to run around in the "real world" with Sparr, who's good again, to pick up pieces of things to defeat Ko and Gethwing, and Eric's parent's find out, but then are totally cool with Eric running around and doing stuff without them, even though he's, you know, like ten or something.

Also, Zara comes back to life... Somehow... And Urik and Galen and Sparr and her are all reunited as a family, even though she was dead, but somehow now? And Sparr becomes a good guy permanently.

And there's time traveling.

And also they never turn all the Ninns back into Orkins? They just find out that Ninns are Orkins, but then they just are like "oh cool whatever" with the information, even though it's possible to turn them back, and it's never brought up again?

???

It was a weird series. Personally, I felt like the author realized how popular Harry Potter was, and tried to emulate it, however, since he hadn't set up the series with Eric as "the chosen one" and had instead set it up as more of an ensemble, his attempts at making Eric the centerpoint for a lot of the plot in the second half (or so? I don't know if I can pinpoint exactly where the change happened, but I know it was really heavy handed in the last ~10 books or so) came off as heavy-handed and worked to the stories detriment.

Yep.

Seriously, I think the author was trying to replicate Harry Potter:

- The wizened mentor was a hidden tragic backstory (Galen)
- The antihero that first was a bully to the kids but then it turned out they had a tragic backstory (Sparr)
- The messianic hero (Eric), the goofball friend (Neal) and the girl (Julie) (can't remember if she was the "smart one" or not
- All three of the kids getting various magic powers
- A (dead) family reunion (only in HP they're actually dead, and in Droon, they magically come back to life).

Like, it'sn ot a perfect 1:1 comparison, but enough of one that I personally felt that it was probably do to the author attempting to mimic HP, or at least, ride on the wave a little.
