I volunteered to fix up spelling and grammar for another fanfic writer. I'm waiting on his response. (It's a cute fic, but the spelling is all over the place.)

I did that once for a friend and I was so stressed out because every other thing was "well, this is really a stylistic thing where you're not really wrong but I think it looks better this way" and I agonized over whether I should even mention it every time. I think the lesson is: don't ask a descriptivist to proofread for you.

With my last editing project, I eventually had to tell the author to push back more against my suggestions, because his writing style was becoming way too similar to my writing style. I just wanted to help, not completely overwrite the story.
