It is, but most people slashing characters with canon opposite sex LIs don't bother to portray them as bi, even with a lip service "he was into Jane and now he's into Bob".

Which is really incredibly frustrating, because as much as fandom loves to shout "but what about the bisexuals", bisexual in fanfic pretty much means "dude who's exclusively into dudes, but we're going to pretend otherwise to quiet a few noisy het fans".

Well, if you mainly get off on men having sex with each other, when you write a bi guy you're only going to go into full detail for his sex scenes with other men. His het relationships might be there, but they'll always be relegated to background details only.

It doesn't mean the character isn't really bi. I don't think you've been reading the right fanfiction if you think this is the case, or else misinterpreting the fics you have read really wildly because you dislike the gay sex scenes so much, which is natural if you're not into that.

Reading a fic with a bi guy and expecting parity between the gay and het sex scenes? Not usually going to happen in a slash fandom. But the character is still bi.

LOL yeah, "what about the bisexuals," until someone brings up the possibility of a character being canonically bi, and then it's, "no no, that's a cop-out, they need to be fully gay/lesbian!"

Nice strawman.

MOST slash fic I read now has characters with opposite sex LIs portrayed as bi. If said character is in a monogamous same-sex relationship in the fic, that may read as gay but that doesn't mean it is.

What fandoms?

MCU, for one.
