According to "word of God" the whole point of the show wasn't "Will these two get together?" it was "How do they get together?" Which is fine, I'm writing a story like that myself. However, my problem came in Season 5, when once they did get together, instead of Kate being the very strong and independent female character we'd learned to love. They had her instantly falling back onto some stereotyped female insecurities "Oh, he's a millionaire and I'm not, what do I do and think, we're so different?!" Which she hadn't cared about until that very moment. And, imo, the Kate who'd been built up over those 4 seasons prior never would have cared about.

The Season 4 finale was pretty much the death of the show for me. That's when they destroyed Beckket. Season 5 I gritted my teeth through and reading episode summaries of Season 6 makes me glad I gave up.

It feels like a lot of writers can't write an interesting, solid, romantic relationship. Even if they had a interesting, solid relationship before the two became a couple. (Seriously, just add some hand holding and kissing and change nothing else! It's not that difficult!)
