First commenter put it a lot less delicately than I would have, but I was also under the impression that "a schizoid" was kind of an un-PC way to phrase it. Would people look askance at me if I used the term to refer to someone, or is it okay?

I think in this instance it's the same as a gay person calling themselves a fag, self-identifying is way different from you calling someone else it

Well, I think it would be weird to refer to someone as a schizoid if you didn't know if they were diagnosed with the disorder or not.

Schizoid personality disorder is an official diagnosis.

It's only a slur if used against someone. We're allowed to self-define as we choose.
