LMFAO those ages. It's like the opposite of the usual "they look 12 but it's not pedo because they're actually an ageless immortal"

(Anonymous) 2015-03-31 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
And real 12 year old kids are always only half the height of adults. Even 15, still half the height, seventeen, still a good head shorter than adults.

I'm kind of impressed that this author apparently realized 12-year-olds can actually be just as tall as adults. Too bad it was evidently only pedo justification.

sa

(by "real 12 year old kids" in the first sentence I meant in anime/manga logic, derp)

Well, at 12 I was 5'7", so yeah.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-31 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Your anime 12-year-old self would be 4' if you're lucky.

well they both look 28 so there's that

(Anonymous) 2015-03-31 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Creepy.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-31 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
age in manga relationships doesn't really bother me as long as the characters look and act somewhat like an adult

Agreed.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-01 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I'm more creeped out by 700-year-old lolis who are somehow still naive and helpless.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-31 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
If it's any consolation OP, I don't remember many dramatic age gaps in any of her other work.

Ashita no Kimi wa Koko ni Inai is teacher/student (high school, IIRC) from the student's POV if that's not your thing.

...in the translation!

(Anonymous) 2015-03-31 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
as someone who gets mistaken for fifteen all the time I feel her pain tho

(Anonymous) 2015-04-01 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I'm in my 30s and regularly get pegged as being 16-18. It's not uncommon at all if you're short and have a babyface.

Well, that is not like people who look a lot younger than are don't exist. I remember when I was getting my hair done for my college graduation the lady asked if I was graduating from middle school. Also the packages you have to be 18 to sign for I always get asked for my ID and they act all surprised I'm actually 25. Then one time at the air port the ticket checker thought my ID was fake. Then another time I was at a sports event and they were checking the bags of everyone who was over 16 and they let me pass without even asking my age.

*Opens mouth*

*Closes it*

Nope, I got nothing. Just gonna sit here and laugh because damn. Guess you could ignore this particular series and read her other works.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-01 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
you will forever regret your decision to not read her other stuff if you don't, OP. FOREVER.

Honto Yajuu is a long, light, smutty and fluffy romance that is 5000% consensual and hilarious to boot.

Omairi Desu Yo is ongoing and has two couples that appeal (and there are some minor crossovers with Honto Yajuu in that the characters appear in each other's books)

And Konya mo Nemurenai (and its spinoff Kimi to Kore Kara) are grade-A gold.

Yamamoto Kotetsuko is the one mangaka whose stuff I will buy sight unseen, because I have complete and utter faith in her thanks to these pieces.

Scour that piece from your memory if necessary, but DO NOT write her off. She's One Of the Good Ones.

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-04-01 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Honto Yajuu was the first manga of hers that I read. I loved it enough to declare it my favorite yaoi manga after the first chapter.

I'm reading Omairi Desu Yo as well. I'm loving it.

It's not that I hate this piece; just the age gap. I love everything else about it.

I'll definitely keep reading her stuff.

You mentioned that you "buy" the manga. I have to ask where you found it. I've been reading online, but I would love to own the actual manga. I haven't been able to find it in any of the local bookstores.

I don't think any of her titles are licensed. You might be able to find something on Yes-Asia or Book-Off USA if you wanted to buy the Japanese editions.

I'd hardly call an 18 year old an adult in anything other than the legal sense. Emotionally and maturity wise-they're closer to the 12 year olds than to actual adults.

Of course, the closer to 18 that you yourself are, OP, the less you're going to see that distinction.

(Anonymous) 2015-04-02 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I disagree. There's a pretty vast developmental gap between 18 and 12. There's a reason 18 is the age of majority in many countries. Your average 18 year old is not going to want to fuck your average 12 year old, but your average 18 year old would definitely be attracted to a 22-year-old.

Also, I'd argue that the "adulthood" line in the modern world has been pushed up and up these days, and now you're not even an "adult" in popular conception until you're in your late twenties at least, but that's absolutely not true in all locations or at all points in history. The average age of first marriage for women was 20 in 1950.

Image: manga drawing of two characters, about the same height. The blond is labeled by the secret-maker: “18 years old,” the black-haired character is labeled “12 yr. old (He’s just really tall” The 12 year old has a speech bubble: “I like you.”

Text: I finally found a yaoi mangaka that I liked and was looking forward to reading all of her stuff. Then this couple happened. There are two things that I hate in romance stories and will not read anything featuring them. Young child/adult relationships is one of them. To be fair, they are going to wait a few years before sex. But I still find it very uncomfortable. I know the author can do whatever she likes but I can’t help but feel disappointed. I’m hesitant to look at her other stuff now.
