During the first 1-2 pages of that chapter I was giving him the benefit of doubt, but right, now? Yeah, he's being downright abusive.

He effectively abandoned his daughter while she was grieving her mother's death, and then shows up to be Mr. Super Strict Teacher without warning, without explanations, without nothing but humiliation after humiliation for her?

Goodness, Ysengrin and Reynardine have been better parental figures to Annie than Anthony has, at this point, attempted murder and all.

Yeeaaah no matter how 'good' the 'reasons', that is still abusive, bullying behavior. I mean I want to see where this goes and what his 'reasons' are as much as the next person, but that doesn't make the abuse of power any less.

OMG Yes. I honestly don't think he cares about Annie's cheating any more than the Court does. Even if he is actually concerned about it, that does not in anyway excuse how he is treating her. I didn't like him before we actually got to meet him, now I loath the abandoning, abusive, douche. I hope he at least gets another face punch soon, because he has more than earned it.

Yeah seriously. There might be explanations for his behavior, but that absolutely doesn't excuse it. It doesn't matter why he's doing it, there's absolutely nothing about his actions that is ok!

Has it gotten worse after the last couple strips, with the...well, probably not revelation, as it's rather OOC, but the claim that Annie's been cheating?

It's actually true though? It's in the comics in earlier chapters - iirc we see it once, early on, and then later it's referred to again so the implication is she didn't stop that once.

I can normally read stuff without really thinking about the writer, but storylines like this one always pull me out far enough to feel like an actual person is manipulating me, and not just that the story is making me feel an emotion. If that makes any sense? I wonder if there's a term for that...

Ugh. Glad I've been avoiding the forums, then. This is ridiculous. I say this as some one who's been waiting for an explanation - not in a "I want to believe he's a good guy" way, but in a "okay seriously at some point this shitty behavior has to be explained, right?" because no way in hell does he get to show back up out of the blue to be Mr Strict Dad after all this time. Ugh. I seriously don't see how he can be redeemable at this point, much less already have fans/defenders.

I just read the comic and don't involve myself in the fandom at all, but wow, people are actually defending him? Is this going to be Snape fandom all over again?

Like, okay, the cheating is a thing that needed to be addressed, sure, but that doesn't justify outright bullying her. I don't see how anything could.
