He needs to learn to write to the 45 minute mark instead of the usual hour or more mark, to stop his plots being overcrowded. He also needs to let go his inner fanboy a bit. Yes some fanboy ideas are good, like the non-sequential storytelling, but some of them like the female regeneration stuff is just pure Tom Baker's talking cabbage level fanfic fodder. He needs to ask himself if what he's written sounds interesting, or just sounds "cool" (scare-quotes apply). If it is that it sounds "cool" to a fan, then it is probably a duff idea.

What? Female regeneration is an long standing thing from the Doctor Who books. Time Lords that commit suicide regen has the opposite gender. Like that's been around in the books and shit for decades.

Which of the several non-canon book series are you referring to? I do not remember it in any of them. In any case the books are targeted at the hardcore fen who lap up the "cool" fanfic fodder stuff. That is the target that Moffat needs to reach beyond and largely ignore.
