I'm currently dogsitting at my dad's place and I'm wondering whether or not I locked the door when I left home earlier and if I closed the fridge properly. I'm mostly worried about whether the door is locked or not, because it is so messy at my place right now and if a neighbour were to peek in I would be so embarrassed.

Priorities, self!

Can you ask your landlord to check it out?

I rent from a company, so there's not really a landlord (at least not in the way it seems to be in America) so there's no one that can check without me being a bother (and it's 2 in the morning here)

Though honestly, I think I have both locked the door and closed the fridge and am just being a bit neurotic. If I do end up going back home in the morning I can just bring the dog and visit my grandmother afterwards, so it all works out C: (Unless the door is not locked and someone steals all my stuff, but in that case I have insurance at least)

Yeah, usually it is not worth pestering anyone to check it out. I go through this every time I leave my home for any extended period of time--I'm dead certain I left the front door unlocked, or the coffeemaker on, or the fridge open. I used to make myself horribly anxious over this. Now I just shrug and say "Oh, it's my brain doing that again." And it always is.

As for renting from a company--doesn't the company have a property manager who checks out safety issues, addresses complaints, and lines up repairs? Alternatively, do you have a neighbor you would trust to check it out?
