Eh, I like lots of things. I loved the campiness of SGA and the darkness of SGU.
SG1, however, managed to change my mind about Richard Dean Anderson, who I loved so much as McGuyver and hated soo much as O'Neill. When people complain about SGU as "not being Stargate", my mind boggles, because SG1 took a 90 degree turn from the movie and was not what I thought of Stargate being when it first aired.

With you on the "it's not stargate" bafflement. Is there a stargate? It's Stargate. You may not like it, but it's not NOT Stargate just because you hate it's existence.

This reminds me that I really should finish my "Are there ghostbusters? Yes? Then the female-led Ghostbusters movie is STILL GHOSTBUSTERS" post.

Eh, there is a difference between what was going on with the movie-to-1st series, and from established-franchise-to-new-thing.

The movie to series didn't take a huge jump from "this happens mainly on planets" and the main villains [and to large extent central conflict] remained the same while working it so that it could actually work as a tv series. This was changed some with SGA, but still remained similar enough to 1st series it spun off from to be recognizable as the same franchise.

SGU, on the other hand? Broke away from almost all of it, taking away what fans had loved about the previous series [or a large portion of the fans], while the creators quite literally told those fans "We don't need you!" and giving a verbal middle finger to those fans.

Stargate the movie ended with Daniel Jackson finding a wife and a life on another planet that he loved, and O'neill getting over the death of his son by bonding with one of the kids there. The series opens with aliens abducting and eventually killing the kid and the wife, while the alien colony the movie spent all of its time with boarded up their gate never to be seen again, plus everything established by the first movie is completely wrong. I still think that was just plain mean-spirited, and has forever spoiled me on the series.

Yeah to be honest that was what originally put me off SG1 and I'm not sure I was ever able to get past that.

I thought I was the only one who hated O'Neill. Nice to know he didn't work for everybody.

I loved the movie and I liked Kurt Russel's O'Neill - and then we got RDA in the series. I just couldn't get used to that. So I maybe watched about seven SG1 episodes altogether, and never got into the fandom.

But Kurt Russell was well on his way to becoming RDA's version by the end of the mmovie. He started as a burnt out, grief and guilt stricken shell of person who literally only signed up so he could kill himself with a nuke, and gradually healed to being a man who started to care about others, had a sarcastic streak, and cared about the kids and Daniel's wellbeing followed by intending to falsify a report to explain away the lack of nuclear suicide. Are you really saying you preferred the suicidal husk?

It's not about the character in this case, it's about the face I associate said character with. Maybe that's weird, but the disconnect was too much for me. Maybe I could have lived with another actor if he looked and sounded more like Kurt Russell, but RDA was simply too different for me.

Well, that is another way that being neurotypical disadvantages you. Living with face blindness means I don't have to deal with all that stupid angst every time a role gets recast. He's close enough for me not to notice.
